"Molon labe" is a classical Greek phrase meaning "come and take [them]," famously spoken by King Leonidas I of Sparta as a defiant response to surrender demands.
Historical Origin
The phrase molon labe (Greek: μολὼν λαβέ) is attributed to King Leonidas I of Sparta during the Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC, specifically on the eve of the Battle of Thermopylae. When Persian King Xerxes I demanded that the Spartans surrender their weapons, Leonidas reportedly replied with these two words, signaling his refusal and readiness to fight to the death. It is recorded by the historian Plutarch as a classical expression of defiance.
